Tempo Traveller on Rent in Jaipur – My Honest Experience After Some Bad Bookings

The first time I arranged group travel it was for my cousin’s wedding in Jaipur. 14 people. We thought two Innovas would be enough. By Ajmer Road one driver had taken a wrong turn with half our bags in his car. My aunt’s suitcase stayed missing for two days.

After that I gave up on multiple cars. Now I just book a Tempo Traveller on Rent in Jaipur for any trip with more than six people. Everyone sits together, the driver stays with you all day, and nobody’s luggage goes on its own adventure. Wish I’d figured this out earlier.

Here’s what I’ve learned so far. Take what helps.

First, about seats

People count heads and book that exact number of seats. Don’t. There’s always one extra person. Someone brings a friend, someone brings a bag bigger than a fridge, and then half the group drives with luggage on their laps for six hours.

7 or 8 people? The 9 Seater Urbania in Jaipur is my usual pick. It’s small enough for the tiny lanes near Hawa Mahal and still roomy inside. Nobody fights over legroom.

Around 10 to 12 people? Get the 12 Seater Tempo Traveller in Jaipur. It’s the normal family trip vehicle in Rajasthan and it doesn’t cost a bomb. We took one to Pushkar last November with five big suitcases and two wedding gift boxes. Everything fit.

Bigger crowd, like a wedding side or office team? Then look at the 16 Seater Urbania in Jaipur. The Urbania is Force’s new van. It rides much softer than the old tempo travellers and it doesn’t feel like sitting in a truck. I genuinely liked it more than I expected to.

What it costs

You won’t find flat rates on anyone’s website. That used to irritate me. Now I get it. The price moves with season, route and vehicle.

For the city it’s usually a package deal, something like 8 hours and 80 km, and that covers the whole sightseeing loop. Outstation trips go by km with a minimum distance per day. A basic Urbania Tempo Traveller Rental in Jaipur quote includes driver, fuel and tolls. Hotels and food you pay yourself.

Two things people forget to ask about. Night charges for the driver, if you’re driving late. And state permits, which you need once you cross towards Delhi or Agra. Ask on the call, then keep the chat on WhatsApp. That screenshot has saved me from fights at least three times now.

City trips vs long trips

Inside Jaipur, honestly, any vehicle in decent shape is fine. Everything is close. Nahargarh to Bapu Bazaar is 25 minutes if traffic is kind.

Long routes are different. Rajasthan eats your day. Jaipur to Jaisalmer is basically sunrise to sunset on the road. That’s when I pay extra for the good stuff, like a Luxury Tempo Traveller in Jaipur with the Maharaja pushback seats. My father’s back made this decision for me. For fancy occasions, or when guests are visiting and you want to show off a little, there’s the Luxury Urbania Rental in Jaipur too. Costs more. Fine.

Planning the Delhi, Agra, Jaipur round trip? Skip trains if you’re a big group. A Tempo Traveller for Golden Triangle Tour stays with you from start to end. Same seat the whole way, bags stay in the back, no running on platforms with trolleys. Did it in 2023 with ten people. Smoothest trip we’ve done.

Before you pay the advance

I keep this list in my notes app now, all learned the hard way.

Get photos of the actual vehicle and its number. “Or similar” means trouble. Go sit in it for two minutes and check the AC is actually cold. If you’re coming between October and March, book two or three weeks ahead, it’s peak season and you’ll have no bargaining power otherwise. And get every rate in writing on WhatsApp. Phone promises disappear the moment you need them.

I book by calling directly now. +91 92566 92765 Straight answers on the call, and everything stays on WhatsApp.

That’s pretty much it

Right size vehicle. Rate in writing. Driver who knows the roads. That’s the whole formula. Get those three right and Jaipur is a lovely city to move around in. Forts, bazaars, the evening drive up to Nahargarh when the whole city is lit up below you.

Make the call. And if the driver suggests a chai stop on the highway, say yes. It’s always those random stops you remember afterwards.
